Dockline settings, explained.
Understand the controls in Dockline Settings before changing them. Sections follow the app, with the effect of each option and any conditions that apply.
General
Language, startup, the system Dock and moving your settings.
- Interface language
Choose the language of Dockline independently of the macOS language and region. Labels change immediately.
- Launch at login
Start Dockline when you sign in to macOS. If macOS requires approval, use macOS Login Items to allow it. The status beside the setting shows whether more action is needed.
- Replace the system Dock
Hide the system Dock while Dockline is running. Dockline restores the saved Dock settings when it quits. This option requires Accessibility; Permissions opens the relevant section.
- Export settings…
Save an archive of appearance, behavior, pinned apps and shortcuts. The archive does not include application files or macOS permissions. Choose where to save it in the file dialog.
- Import settings…
Choose a settings archive, review the confirmation, then import or cancel. Import applies immediately, including login and Dock replacement. Undo last import restores the preceding settings and remains available after restarting Dockline.
- Open setup guide
Reopen the setup guide. Your existing settings remain until you choose a change. Opening the guide does not start a new Trial.
Appearance
Choose the panel’s alignment, margins and material.
- Alignment
Centered alignment fits the panel to its contents. Left aligned uses the available screen width.
- Panel margins
Top sets the gap between the panel and windows. Left, Right and Bottom set the distance from screen edges. Adjust each value with its slider or stepper, from 0 to 200 points.
- Extend task clicks to the bottom edge
Extend the clickable area beneath window buttons down to the screen edge. This makes a task easier to hit when the pointer is at the bottom.
- Hide task backgrounds
Remove the individual backgrounds of window buttons. Combined app windows retain their shared background.
- Show panel separators
Show dividing lines between regions of the panel.
- Color theme
Choose Light, Dark or Match macOS. The choice affects Dockline’s own appearance.
- Glass density
Adjust Dockline’s glass from its standard appearance at 0% to a matte surface at 100%. Other apps are unchanged.
Panel size
Balance readable titles and available screen space. Values use macOS points.
- Panel height
Set the panel height from 36 to 80 points.
- Minimum task width
Set the preferred minimum width of a window button, from 20 to 320 points. Raising it can raise the maximum too. A crowded panel can shrink buttons further to fit.
- Maximum task width
Limit window button width to 100–320 points. Lowering this value can lower the minimum width too.
- Narrow buttons with short titles
Allow buttons with short titles to use less space than the preferred minimum width.
- Space between buttons
Set gaps between window and full-screen/Split View buttons from 0 to 24 points. System buttons keep their own spacing. Reset spacing restores the standard 4-point gap.
Panel behavior
Control when the panel is visible and which system buttons it contains.
- Automatically hide the panel
Hide the panel after the pointer leaves it; reach the bottom edge to reveal it again. Hide delay is available while auto-hide is on and ranges from 0 to 5 seconds. In full screen, the panel is revealed at the bottom edge.
- Mission Control, Downloads and Trash
Show or hide Mission Control, Downloads and Trash independently. Each switch controls its own button on the panel.
- Display as
When Downloads is shown, choose a folder icon or a stack for its button.
- Sort by
Choose the order of Downloads: name, date added, date modified, date created or kind. Available while the Downloads button is enabled.
Windows and groups
Choose how windows are combined and how their buttons respond.
- Combine app windows
Keep separate window buttons together inside one shared background with a single app icon.
- Collapse windows into one button
Choose whether windows of one app collapse into a single button: never, when space is limited, or always. This is separate from combining their backgrounds.
- Show full titles on hover
Hover over a window in an expanded group list to read its full title.
- Middle click
Choose what a middle click on a window button does: nothing, close the window or open a new window.
- Active window click
Choose the effect of clicking the active window: minimize/restore, return to the previous window, or do nothing.
- Window previews
Enable images in group lists with separate Screen Recording permission. Previews update in the background and are not saved. Allow Screen Recording requests access; Open macOS Settings and Check again help finish setup. Drag Dockline into the permission list if it is missing. Window titles remain usable without previews.
Window size
Keep expanded windows above Dockline and choose how resizing happens.
- Leave room for the panel
Adjust expanded or tiled windows to fit above the panel after macOS resizes them. Native full screen stays a separate mode.
- Window adjustment method
Simple corrects the size immediately; Smooth animates the adjustment. System handles a title-bar double-click to expand and restore above the panel and may not work in every app. Available when Leave room for the panel is on.
- System click handling
If System mode cannot handle title-bar clicks, open Accessibility settings and use Check click handling to retry. Permission to manage windows alone does not guarantee that click handling is available.
- Animation duration
Set the animation duration from 0 to 3 seconds in Smooth or System mode. Available when Leave room for the panel is on. macOS Reduce Motion disables the animation.
Displays and desktops
Choose which windows appear on each panel and how desktops are represented.
- Show windows from displays
List windows from all displays on each panel, or show only the windows on that panel’s display.
- Show windows from desktops
List windows from all desktops or only the current desktop.
- Separate windows by desktop
Separate windows into desktop sections. Available when showing all desktops and only the current display. If another selection disables this option, the saved choice is retained. More details explains how pinned apps and these choices behave.
- Show desktop labels
Label desktop sections with numbers; full-screen and Split View sections use window titles. Available with all desktops or the current display.
- Show desktop buttons
Show desktop buttons in one row, following Mission Control order, including full-screen and Split View spaces.
- Switch desktops with the mouse wheel
Use the mouse wheel over the panel to switch desktops. Requires desktop buttons. Trackpad gestures keep their usual behavior.
- Drag windows between displays or desktops · Beta
Two separate Beta switches allow dragging tasks or groups to another display’s panel or another desktop section. Both start off. A move that crosses both a display and a desktop needs both enabled; compatibility is still being tested.
Attention signals
Make supported app activity easier to notice. Reduce Motion is respected.
- Highlight new unread items
Pulse the accent outline when a supported app’s unread count increases. While highlighting is enabled, Also react to symbols and text extends this to other badge changes, which may indicate activity rather than unread items. Existing counts at launch do not pulse. More details explains limitations; macOS notifications and Focus are unchanged.
- Draw attention to new dialogs
Make a task bounce with an amber outline when a new dialog appears in a background window. Dialog detection does not cover every app.
- Repeat until I open the window
Repeat a window’s attention effect until you open it, or limit it to 1–60 seconds. Repetition is available when at least one attention effect is enabled. Duration is available when repetition is off and an attention effect is enabled. Reduce Motion suppresses movement.
- Animate app launch
Animate a pinned app icon until the app finishes launching.
Panel shortcut
Assign a shortcut to reveal the panel and adjust how a held key behaves.
- Show Applications button
Show the Applications button independently of the panel shortcut. It opens the system Applications window.
- Assign key
Choose Assign key, then press a key combination or press and release one modifier. Cancel stops recording without changing the saved shortcut; Clear removes it. A modifier-only shortcut needs Accessibility permission.
- Ignore a held panel shortcut
Trigger the shortcut on release and ignore presses held beyond the chosen threshold. The 0–3 second threshold is available while this option is enabled.
Applications
Manage the apps you have pinned to the panel.
- Unpin
Review pinned applications and unpin one to remove it from the panel. This does not uninstall the app. An empty list has no unpin actions.
Permissions
Check each permission separately. Opening macOS Settings is only the first step.
- Accessibility
Allow Accessibility so Dockline can read window titles and activate, minimize or close windows. Open macOS Settings leads to the permission list; Check again refreshes the status. If Dockline is missing, drag its icon into the list. Opening settings or checking status does not grant permission by itself.
- Screen Recording
Screen Recording is optional and used for window previews. Allow Screen Recording requests access; the other buttons open macOS settings or recheck its status. macOS may ask you to reopen Dockline.
- Check Downloads access
Check Downloads access reads the folder only when you ask and may trigger a macOS prompt. The displayed result describes the last check. Files & Folders settings opens the relevant macOS permissions.
- Login Items settings
Open macOS Login Items to review approval. Turn Dockline’s launch-at-login preference on or off in General.
Licensing
Review Trial or paid access, recover purchases and manage Mac activations. Actions change with your account and access state.
- Buy or extend a license
Buy one year for up to two active Macs, without automatic renewal. An eligible active Trial may offer a discount. When paid access is active, Extend license buys a following year. Review the exact offer before payment.
- Synchronize
Synchronize refreshes the current access confirmation; it does not extend the paid period. Access details shows the access source, dates and offline confirmation period.
- Restore purchase
Sign in with your purchase email, verify the code and choose Restore on this Mac to activate the purchase here. Restoring a purchase does not begin a new Trial.
- Email verification
Enter your email and choose Continue to receive a six-digit code. Enter it and continue to verify the address. Change email returns to address entry; Send code again requests a new code.
- Change email
Verify a new address to link this copy of Dockline for future purchases. Earlier purchases stay with the original account. Changing email does not restart Trial.
- Account refresh and sign-out
Refresh account reloads purchase and Mac information. Sign out ends the account session; use Mac deactivation separately when you want to free an activation slot.
- Mac activations
Expand a Mac to see its macOS user profiles. Deactivate this Mac asks for confirmation, then removes access for the whole Mac and frees one slot; Cancel keeps it active. Several users on one Mac share a slot. Offline access can persist for up to seven days.
- Purchase history
Review payment dates, status and the periods of access from your earlier purchases.
- Purchase documents and consent
Read the terms, refund policy and privacy notice shown for the purchase, then give explicit consent. If documents cannot load, retry with Reload purchase documents. If they change, review them again. Consent enables checkout; it does not itself grant paid access.
- Continue to payment
Continue with Paddle opens payment after you accept the purchase documents. If no method is shown, refresh payment methods. Dockline confirms paid access after the payment status updates; simply returning from checkout is not confirmation.
- Manage Paddle purchase
Manage Paddle purchase opens the payment provider’s purchase page. Open in browser opens the same destination externally. Done closes the sheet; returning from the payment page refreshes access.
Diagnostics
Inspect current status and review a report before sharing it.
- Refresh status
Refresh status rechecks window-control permission, discovered windows, displays and the system Dock state. The values describe the latest check.
- Recent errors
Expand a recent error to see its cause and suggested action. Clear error history removes the local list. It does not send a report.
- View report
View report prepares a snapshot for you to inspect. Save report writes exactly that reviewed report to a file; Copy report puts it on the clipboard. Done closes the preview. Nothing is sent automatically. Review the contents before sharing them with support.
- Restore system Dock
Turn off system Dock replacement and restore the Dock immediately.
- Got it
Got it closes a notice about an external request to quit Dockline. Its local record remains available in Diagnostics.
Software updates
Check for a newer version and read what changed.
- Check for updates
Check for updates opens the update window. Checking does not install anything: choose Install separately or postpone. Background checks are enabled; updates are not downloaded automatically.
- Release notes
Expand a version to read its changes. The app shows the latest ten builds, with the newest open initially. Full changelog on the website opens the complete history in your current language.
